Nara Shikamaru is your typical laid-back and easy-going ninja, who loves to sleep, go cloud-watching or enjoys a game of ’shougi’. A completely unenthusiastic character, he finds many things in life to be annoying or troublesome. Like Naruto he would receive low grades but that’s because he believes that even lifting a pencil is too troublesome.
However first impressions aside, Nara Shikamaru is not your average ninja to be underestimated.
Despite being the lazy and easy going guy that Shikamaru is, he is really a genius strategist with an IQ of over 200. Once Shikamaru puts his fingers together to create a circle and closes his eyes to concentrate, he is able to analyse through many different possibilities and come out with many strategies where he’s ten moves ahead of his opponent.
One of the most promising ninja of his generation, his intelligence and fast thinking makes him the only one of Naruto’s class mates to become a chunin on his first try. Later he is appointed as the leader of a five-man team on a mission to rescue Uchiha Sasuke.
He has mastered his family’s special move which is the Shadow Binding Technique(Kagemane no Jutsu) where he can capture the shadow of an opponent to either keep them immobile or force them to mimic his movements.
While Shikamura is a brilliant strategist as well as a level-headed thinker, he finds all women to be bossy and “troublesome”. This is due to his mother’s tyrannical personality and influenced by his father’s identical view of women. Neverthless, Shikamura has expressed his interest in marriage and starting a family of his own. He says that he wants to marry someone who is average looking, not ugly nor beautiful and raise two children, first a girl then a boy. Afterwhich, he would like to retire after his daughter is married, his son has a job and spend the rest of his life playing Shoji and to die before his wife.
Deep down, Shikamura is a kind person. He cares greatly about his friends and comrades, and would lay his life down on the line to protect them.
